What is Olympic Lifting?
Olympic Weightlifting is a sport in which the athlete attempts to lift a barbell loaded with weights overhead through techniques called the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk. These lifts are very unique in their ability to develop both power and speed (otherwise thought of as explosiveness). These lifts have been shown to be effective training for almost any sport, including CrossFit. Practicing the snatch and the clean & jerk is fundamental to developing athletes and sport, but also are considered major functional movements that can improve everyone’s day-to-day lives. Imagine this– a warm 30 degree summer day, heading to the lake and you have to load that beer cooler into the back of the truck, well you have to get that weight to your shoulders and put it over head. It just so happens that the most efficient way to do this is the Clean & Jerk, so yeah we are training you for that!
This program is available for youth and adult athletes. Youth Olympic lifting has been increasing in popularity in the last decade.
